The World of ‘The Questors from Effpiem’

On the afternoon of Sunday, February 22, after I had finished my homework and other stuff I had to get done for others, I decided to get back to work on revising and editing Season 1 of The Questors from Effpiem. I must have worked on it for about 45 minutes to an hour, and I just could not stop grinning the entire time. I was having ridiculous amounts of fun getting back into the world I had created.

Revising and editing the text of the story is my first step toward creating the “Special Edition” of Season 1 of Questors. (Yes, I am taking a page out of Tee Morris‘s playbook; he is one of my many inspirations and role models.) Like him, not only do I have a better microphone now than I did when I first started recording this story, but I’m also a better writer. I want the story to be as strong and as cohesive as it can be before I start recording it again.

Originally, Questors Season 1 was not only published episodically, but also written episodically. Sitting down and transferring all the text from OpenOffice Writer into Celtx has given me a chance to look at the story as a whole, and the setting as a whole, instead of just seeing it one episode at a time. This strategy is definitely helping me improve the story. I’ve already found one continuity error that I need to correct, and I’ve added a few bits and pieces of background information that flesh out the world even more.

Back in 2008, I created the setting for The Questors from Effpiem by taking the online social milieu of Farpoint Media (FPM – hence the name of the main country), Podiobooks, and several related podcast directories and associations, and translating that milieu into a D&D-esque fantasy world. No, this is not a series that takes itself very seriously. The major story arc of Season 1 takes place in that fantasy world’s underworld, which combines concepts from classical Greek myths, Piers Anthony’s Incarnations of Immortality series, and my own imagination. The main characters undertake a quest through the underworld because they need to talk to Kris, Effpiem’s master ambassador, who was killed by an assassin while a new alliance between two kingdoms was not yet solidified. Only her knowledge can save the alliance.

As of the date of this post, I’ve revised Questors Season 1 up through the first few paragraphs of Episode 4 (of 12), and I am looking forward to completing my revisions.
