DDoP 2016 Ep21: Thread Snippings 009: Behind the Scenes of Sewing

This is my Dog Days of Podcasting episode for Wednesday, August 24. (This episode is dropping earlier than usual because I got ahead on the challenge yesterday evening.) In this episode, I give you a live, near-real-time (I did edit the audio a little bit before posting it) look at part of my costume-making process. This episode shows some of the not-so-fun parts of costume-making and how I work through the problems I encounter.

DDoP 2016 Ep19: Thread Snippings 008: New Boot Smell

This is my Dog Days of Podcasting episode for Monday, August 22.The new boots I ordered for my Jedi costume back on the 10th are here! In this episode, I unbox them and review them.

Show Notes:

  • These are the boots I’m reviewing in this episode. Caveat Emptor: These do have visible zippers that run up from the arch of your foot, so if you’re trying to get your costume approved by a costuming organization, they ain’t gonna cut it. I do like the way they look, though.

This is my Dog Days of Podcasting episode for Sunday, August 21. It’s another car-cast, but this time it’s an update on the sewing progress I made that day, and on the strategies and practices I use while making costumes.

Show Notes:

  • Yes, I say “Gonk” sometimes. I have a habit of collecting and using unusual alternatives to curse words. 🙂
  • The directions for making tabards that I talk about in this episode are in this forums thread.
  • No theme music in this episode.

DDoP 2016 Ep10: Thread Snippings 004: The Art of the Saber

I made it to Episode 10 of the Dog Days of Podcasting Challenge! This is my DDoP episode for Saturday, August 13. (I am going to catch up, really!) This episode is all about fencing, lightsabers, friendship, honor, and dealing with awkward cosplay situations.

DDoP 2016 Ep07: Thread Snippings 003: Accessory Shopping

This is my Dog Days of Podcasting catch-up episode for Wednesday, August 10.

To have a show-accurate costume, you need the most accurate accessories you can get… but getting them can be quite a challenge. In this episode, I talk about the progress I’ve made recently on that front.

DDoP 2016 Ep04: Thread Snippings 002: Robe Version 2

This is another Dog Days of Podcasting catch-up episode; this one is for Sunday, August 7.

In this episode, I share the strategy I used to make my Jedi robe. I know the prevailing Jedi wisdom is “Do or do not, there is no try,” but I went into this project with an attitude of “If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again.” Does that make me a poor Jedi?* Maybe, but I do believe it has made me a better cosplayer. This is among the most ambitious cosplay projects I’ve ever taken on, so I knew I wasn’t going to succeed completely the first time I tried to make it. Therefore, I strategically planned to make a Version 1 and a Version 2 so that I could make a ton of mistakes on Version 1, then fix them all in Version 2.

  • * I feel the need to add a disclaimer here to say that I am being somewhat facetious. I don’t really, seriously self-identify as a Jedi for purposes of my everyday life; I just like pretending to be one at conventions and special events. 🙂

DDoP 2016 Ep01: Thread Snippings 001 take 3: The Cutting Table

My first two podcast episodes are finally live! I have been experiencing technical difficulties with the SoundCloud mobile app, so I decided to record episodes on my laptop until I could get caught up with the challenge. This is the Dog Days of Podcasting episode that I meant to post last Thursday, August 4.
